Mapfolio Chrome Extension

The Mapfolio Chrome Extension makes it easy to check domain company data and add domains to your projects directly from any website you're browsing.

Installation

Step 1: Download the Extension

Download Mapfolio Chrome Extension

The download will start automatically. The file is a ZIP archive containing the extension.

Step 2: Extract the ZIP File

  1. Locate the downloaded file (usually in your Downloads folder)
  2. Extract the ZIP file to a location you can remember (e.g., ~/Downloads/mapfolio-extension)
  3. You should see a dist folder inside the extracted directory

Step 3: Install in Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome
  2. Navigate to chrome://extensions/ (or go to Menu → Extensions → Manage Extensions)
  3. Enable Developer mode (toggle in the top right corner)
  4. Click Load unpacked
  5. Select the dist folder from the extracted ZIP file
  6. The extension should now appear in your extensions list

Step 4: Verify Installation

  1. Look for the Mapfolio icon in your Chrome toolbar
  2. Click the icon to open the side panel
  3. You should see the Mapfolio interface

Usage

Checking Domain Company Data

  1. Navigate to any website
  2. Click the Mapfolio extension icon in your toolbar
  3. The extension will automatically check if the domain is in the Mapfolio database
  4. View company information in the side panel

Adding Domains to Projects

  1. While browsing a website, open the Mapfolio extension
  2. If the domain is found, you'll see an option to add it to a project
  3. Select the project from the dropdown
  4. Click "Add to Project"

LinkedIn Integration

When visiting LinkedIn company pages, the extension will:

  • Automatically detect the company profile
  • Show company data from Mapfolio if available
  • Allow you to add the LinkedIn profile to your projects

Troubleshooting

Extension Not Loading

  • Make sure Developer mode is enabled
  • Verify you selected the dist folder (not the parent folder)
  • Check the Chrome extensions page for error messages
  • Try reloading the extension

Domain Not Found

  • The domain may not be in the Mapfolio database
  • Try checking the company name manually on Mapfolio
  • Some domains may use different company names

Side Panel Not Opening

  • Right-click the extension icon and select "Inspect popup" to check for errors
  • Try disabling and re-enabling the extension
  • Make sure you're using a recent version of Chrome

Privacy & Security

  • The extension only accesses data from the Mapfolio API
  • No browsing data is stored locally
  • All API requests are authenticated using your Mapfolio account
  • The extension respects your privacy settings

Updates

The extension will notify you when updates are available. To update:

  1. Download the latest version from the link above
  2. Extract the new ZIP file
